A Few of my Favorite Things – 2011

2011 was a good year at Coffee with an Architect. This little blog has grown beyond all my expectations, and I owe it all to you guys. This year there’s been 221,887 visits to the site, from 136,792 unique visitors. (Clearly 136,791 of you need to rethink your priorities.). So, since I’m still all sappy and sentimental from the holiday wine, I’d just like to take a minute to say Thank you. THANK YOU! You guys are amazing…. seriously.

To celebrate the end of the year, I took a few minutes to comb through the archives and pull out the top ten posts from 2011. I’ve posted a total of 109 times this year, on topics ranging from why Architects have angst, to why Architects should have angst. Here’s the top ten by popularity. Let me know if I missed one of your favorites in the comment section!

Cheers! and here’s to a fabulously angsty 2012,

Much love,

Jody

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love being an Architect. I’ve been an Architect almost as long as I haven’t been an Architect (don’t try to do the math, please)...

10. When You’re an Architect

A few things I never knew would be true when I started out in this profession years ago.

.

.

9. Ten Reasons Architects probably won’t fix it

Let’s just call this a “to-do list” shall we? A full-throttle list of things we (as a profession) better get to work on..

.

8. CTRL+ANGST+DEL

Auto-cad is hard enough. Save some time with this handy list of short-cut commands.

.

7. Architects need a good slogan

Maybe we don’t need to become more relevant as a profession. Maybe all we need to do is come up with a few catch-phrases. Afterall, it worked for margarine. It’s worth a try. Who is the “Fabio” of Architecture anyway?

.

6. Dear Mr. Architect, please Advise

A sensible letter from some adoring clients, who have wrapped their son in bubble-wrap.

.

5. Ten Reasons Architects can fix it

Hey, ignore post #9, maybe we can fix it afterall!

.

4. Because I’m an Architect

I do these things because I’m an Architect. The fact that I am lonely is a coincidence.

.

3. If Architects

If Architects made top ten lists, this would be on it.

.

2. Architecture in Charts

Who doesn’t love a pie chart? Don’t answer that.

.

1. An Architect’s Dress Code

You need to dress the part, if you plan to be taken seriously. And you should plan to be taken seriously. Apparently, a turtleneck can help.
